  This week’s trading activity primarily revolved around veteran teams aiming for a championship run, rather than true title contenders. This marks the first significant mid-season reinforcement by Cleveland, which currently holds the best record in the Eastern Conference and aims to convert that into playoff success.

  The addition of Hunter is notable despite his limited playoff experience (just 16 games). His skill set—combining three-point shooting with defensive prowess—is highly suited for postseason challenges. As a formidable one-on-one defender, he offers more shot creation compared to other wing players alongside Cleveland's four All-Stars.

  This season has been particularly impressive for Hunter as he averages 19 points per game—a new career high surpassing his previous peak by 3.4 points. He has evolved into a more aggressive shooter from beyond the arc this year, increasing his average attempts to 6.7 with an impressive accuracy rate of 39%.

  

  A noteworthy shift can be observed; last season nearly equal numbers of two-pointers were taken outside the paint (212) versus three-pointers made (286), whereas this season sees him attempting almost double those long-range shots at 247 against just 101 twos outside the paint area. Consequently, his effective field goal percentage jumped from 56.3% to an outstanding 61.6%. The importance of improved shot selection cannot be overstated.

  

  Cleveland traded minimal draft assets while avoiding luxury tax implications this season: they likely won’t use their pick swap in ’26 and must outperform both themselves and Utah in ‘28 based on trades already executed involving first-round swaps with them previously acquired picks.
